Softball Game Preview: Foss Falcons vs. Franklin Pierce Cardinals

Foss is 0-10 against Franklin Pierce since May of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. Foss has given up an average of 19.7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Foss is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 19 runs last Monday, they were much more limited against Orting on Monday. They lost 22-0 to the Cardinals.

Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Fife 14-2. Considering the Cardinals have won five matchups by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kiley Sledge made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Sledge was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Sledge is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leila Kennach, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.7 RBI per game. Another player making a difference was Katrina Proby, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

Franklin Pierce was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Franklin Pierce's record is now 6-0. As for Foss, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Foss suffered a grim 23-2 defeat to Franklin Pierce in their previous meeting on April 1st. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
