Basketball Game Preview: Mater Lakes Academy Bears vs. Sports Leadership & Management

Mater Lakes Academy will head into Friday's game hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 34-point drubbing they dealt Monsignor Pace on Friday. Mater Lakes Academy really took it to Monsignor Pace for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-42 win. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 196th, while the Spartans are ranked 571st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Sports Leadership & Management strolled past Hialeah Gardens with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 67-53.

Mater Lakes Academy better keep an eye on Ethan Taylor. He was instrumental in Sports Leadership & Management's win, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Taylor's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Franco Moreira, who posted nine points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Sports Leadership & Management smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Mater Lakes Academy pushed their record up to 7-12 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Sports Leadership & Management, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-9.
