Baseball Game Preview: Pinkston Vikings vs. Roosevelt Mustangs

For the second straight game, Pinkston will face off against Roosevelt. The Vikings will welcome the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pinkston has four straight victories, Roosevelt has 24 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, Pinkston made easy work of Roosevelt and carried off a 20-1 win. Considering the Vikings have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Luis Escorche made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pinkston is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Escorche was also big at the plate, scoring two runs.

In other batting news, Eric Pasillas was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Pinkston's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Sebastian Munoz, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Pinkston now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Roosevelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.
