Basketball Game Preview: Artesia Pioneers vs. Pioneer Titans

Artesia has gone 9-1 against Pioneer recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Artesia Pioneers will welcome the Pioneer Titans at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Pioneer will be up against a hot Artesia team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Artesia blew past Glenn 68-30 on Friday. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 338th, while the Eagles are ranked 1173rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Artesia's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Heredia, who posted 12 points. What's more, Heredia also racked up two rebounds, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was CJ Okeke, who earned seven points and six boards.

Artesia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Pioneer hadn't done well against Whitney recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Pioneer came out on top against Whitney by a score of 60-53. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Titans.

Artesia's victory was their 11th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for Pioneer, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.

Artesia was able to grind out a solid win over Pioneer in their previous meeting back in January, winning 53-42. Will Artesia repeat their success, or does Pioneer have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
