Football Recap: Eastern Guilford Falls Despite Big Games from Tyler Whaley-Melvin and Javion Majette + How To Watch

Eastern Guilford was the 55-13 winner over Asheboro when they last played one another back in March of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Wildcats took a 37-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Comets on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (31), the Wildcats still had to take the loss.

Eastern Guilford's loss came despite strong showings from Javion Majette and Tyler Whaley-Melvin. Majette rushed for 79 yards and a pair of TDs, while Whaley-Melvin gained 189 total yards and a touchdown. Majette also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Wildcats are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise.

Dallas Brinton was his usual excellent self, rushing for 133 yards and three scores for Asheboro. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Connor Brinton, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Eastern Guilford's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Asheboro, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-2.

Eastern Guilford wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 34-14 loss against Northern Guilford on the 24th. As for Asheboro, they have also already played their next game, a 38-35 defeat against Northeast Guilford on the 24th.
