Basketball Recap: Lincoln Northeast's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Lincoln Northeast had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Burke Bulldogs by a score of 72-59. Given the Rockets' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 131st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln Northeast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lazerek Houston, who went 12 for 22 en route to 27 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Houston is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Grant Fredericks was another key player, going 7 of 10 on his way to 14 points and four steals.

Burke's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nate Collins, who went 5 for 9 en route to 17 points, and Nate Vereen-Burton, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 15 points. Ryan Rummel also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Lincoln Northeast pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.5 points per game. As for Burke, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Lincoln Northeast didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 92-70 win against Lincoln High on the 24th. As for Burke, they will head out to square off against Bellevue East at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Burke is facing Bellevue East at the right time seeing as Bellevue East is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
