5A District 1 recap November 19, 2013
Rio Rancho and Carlsbad played the most contested game in 5A District 1 this week, with Rio Rancho eventually emerging with a 41-38 victory. Easton Bruere threw for 308 yards and 2 touchdowns during the win.
Volcano Vista lost to Clovis 47-21 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Derek Martinez threw for 248 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 21-34 with 1 interception.
Blair Manly was a key player and the best on defense this week as Cibola lost to Hobbs. The 6-foot-2 junior nabbed 1 interception.
Tristen Foley was the best wideout in the league this week as the Rams defeated the Cavemen. Foley racked up 5 receptions for 109 yards. Brady Patterson helped Rio Rancho's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 103 yards.
Rio Rancho's Bruere and Foley led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Bruere has thrown for 2,601 yards this season, while Foley has 45 catches for 700 yards. Dominico Chavez from the Hawks leads the league in rushing with 1,203 yards.
Dave Howes' team led 5A District 1 in scoring this week after putting up 41 points on Carlsbad. Bruere in the win.
