Preview: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. North Surry Greyhounds

The Surry Central Golden Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the North Surry Greyhounds at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Surry Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.

After a string of five wins, Surry Central's good fortune finally ran out. They were outmatched by Forbush at home and fell 57-27. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Surry Central has scored all season.

Surry Central's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Presley Smith, who scored ten points, and Layla Wall who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and two steals. Wall has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.

North Surry can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 73-41 win over West Wilkes. North Surry's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Surry to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sadie Badgett, who scored 18 points along with six steals. Badgett has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kalyn Collins, who scored 16 points.

Surry Central's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-2. As for North Surry, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Surry Central have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for North Surry, though, as they've been averaging only 29.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Surry Central came up short against North Surry when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 54-43. Can Surry Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
