Baseball Game Preview: Rockdale County Bulldogs vs. Newton Rams

The Rockdale County Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Newton Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Rockdale County took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Newton, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Rockdale County came out on top in a nail-biter against Newton on Wednesday, sneaking past 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since April 8, 2024.

For Newton's part, Caden Brown was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Brown has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Chris Guillory was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Brandon Scott also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Even though they lost, Newton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rockdale County only managed six hits.

Newton has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. Rockdale County's win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-12.
