Preview: St. Charles Fighting Saints vs. Spring Grove Lions
The St. Charles Fighting Saints will be home for the holidays to greet the Spring Grove Lions at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: St. Charles has struggled recently with eight defeats in a row, while Spring Grove will arrive with five straight wins.
Last Friday, St. Charles had to suffer through a rough 69-23 loss at the hands of Chatfield. While losing is never fun, St. Charles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Chatfield is ranked 171st).
Spring Grove has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 20 points or more this season. They blew past Wabasha-Kellogg 63-43.
St. Charles' defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-7. As for Spring Grove, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
St. Charles was able to grind out a solid victory over Spring Grove when the teams last played back in January, winning 64-53. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Spring Grove's Addyson Mchugh, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Now that she won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for St. Charles to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
