Basketball Recap: Aquinas Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

While Aquinas didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They ended the year with a bang, routing the Douglas County West Falcon 54-28 on Saturday. Given the Monarchs' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Falcon are ranked 144th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Douglas County West's loss came despite strong showings from Ava Grimm and Ella Wiese. Grimm posted 11 points and six rebounds, while Wiese had seven points and four steals. Grimm has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played.

The win was the fourth in a row for Aquinas, bringing their record for this year to 7-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 25.8 points. As for Douglas County West, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aquinas will square off against Guardian Angels Central Catholic on Friday. As for Douglas County West, they will face off against West Point-Beemer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
