Softball Game Preview: Poynette Pumas vs. Lodi Blue Devils

Poynette has gone 9-1 against Lodi recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Pumas will be playing at home against the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Poynette comes in on three and Lodi on six.

Poynette is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top against Dodgeville by a score of 6-1.

Pip Lapacek made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 23 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kiera Childs, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. Karly Rivette was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Poynette kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Lodi narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past New Glarus/Monticello 3-2.

Poynette's victory bumped their record up to 19-6. As for Lodi, their win bumped their record up to 18-7.

Poynette came out on top in a nail-biter against Lodi when the teams last played back in May, sneaking past 4-2. Will the Pumas repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
