Baseball Game Preview: Las Lomas Knights vs. Moreau Catholic Mariners

The Las Lomas Knights will take on the Moreau Catholic Mariners at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last three games Las Lomas has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Las Lomas is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Fort Bragg a 1-0 shutout.

Fort Bragg's batters probably weren't too happy with Alessandro Martinez-Cabrera, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (he gave up two walks). Martinez-Cabrera has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Moreau Catholic made easy work of Ferndale on Wednesday and carried off a 9-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mariners.

Aiden Perry made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Fabian Alvarez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Isaiah Clendinen was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Moreau Catholic's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Las Lomas, their record now sits at 13-11-1.

Las Lomas came up short against Moreau Catholic in their previous meeting back in March, falling 6-3. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
