Softball Recap: Versailles Tigers vs. Covington Buccs

Versailles had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-6 to make it six. They lost 17-1 to the Covington Buccs. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buccs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Covington, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-7. The result was nothing new for the Buccs, who have now won seven matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Covington's part, Whitney Burns was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Burns has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Covington got a massive performance out of Jayda McClure, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. That's the most home runs McClure has posted since April 3rd. Emalyn Johnson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
