Baseball Recap: Boston College High Takes a Loss

Boston College High extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 6-5 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Xaverian Brothers Hawks. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

Boston College High got a good showing from Matt Reardon, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Reardon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

As for Xaverian Brothers, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

On Xaverian Brothers' side, not much got past Paul McCarthy, who gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Boston College High off the board.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Morse, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Alex Brinker also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Boston College High will be playing at home against Wachusett Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Xaverian Brothers, they are taking a road trip to challenge Catholic Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
