Baseball Recap: Johnstown-Monroe Find Success

Johnstown-Monroe lost to Utica back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Johnnies had just enough and edged out the Redskins 4-3. The four-run effort marked the Johnnies' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Johnstown-Monroe got a great performance from Garrett Penrod as he struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Erik Marohl, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Jackson Ryan also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Johnstown-Monroe and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Utica, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Johnstown-Monroe wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-4 win against Buckeye Valley on the 12th. As for Utica, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Lakewood on the 14th.
