Basketball Recap: Southwest Starts Season with Loss at Home

Southwest unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 56-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Medicine Valley Raiders on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Roughriders in their meetings with the Raiders: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the defeat, Southwest had strong showings from Houston Billeter, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 22 rebounds, and Deric Kelley, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. Billeter's big performance that evening made it 15 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points.

Medicine Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lucas Einspahr, who posted 24 points and five rebounds. Mason Roblee was another key player, shooting 57% from the field to rack up 19 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Southwest has already played their next game, a 72-53 loss against Maywood/Hayes Center on the 6th. As for Medicine Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 50-44 victory against Paxton on the 5th.
