Football Preview: Lowell Red Raiders vs. Andover Golden Warriors
Lowell is 1-9 against Andover since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lowell Red Raiders are headed away from home for the first time to take on the Andover Golden Warriors at 7:00 p.m.
Lowell came up short against Nashua South on Friday, falling 36-13. While losing is never fun, the Red Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 134th in Massachusetts, while the Purple Panthers are ranked eighth in New Hampshire).
Meanwhile, Andover posted their closest win since October 20, 2023 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-35 victory over Chelmsford. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Golden Warriors.
A big part of Andover's win came down to the chemistry between Dominic Papa and his top target Julius Martinez. Papa threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns while Martinez picked up 166 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Martinez was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 62 yards. Marcus Dejesus also helped out as he racked up 110 receiving yards.
