Baseball Game Preview: Sun Valley Spartans vs. South Mecklenburg Sabres

The Sun Valley Spartans will head out to challenge the South Mecklenburg Sabres at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Sun Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

While Sun Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over South Mecklenburg on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Connor Salerno looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Sun Valley got a big performance out of Braxton McGinniss, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run. Paxton Homewood also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

South Mecklenburg's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-6. As for Sun Valley, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sun Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like South Mecklenburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
