Kayla Hayes made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Reinhart, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Alaina Martin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Schoharie kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Voorheesville's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Schalmont by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Blackbirds have suffered since April 14th.
Voorheesville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Savannah Schmidt, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Schmidt has hit this season.
Voorheesville's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Schoharie, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.
Voorheesville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Schoharie has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. It's a different story for Voorheesville, though, as they've only averaged .340. Will they be able to contain Schoharie's hitters?
Schoharie skirted past Voorheesville 6-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Storm repeat their success, or do the Blackbirds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
