Baseball Recap: Leslie County Eagles vs. Bell County Bobcats
Leslie County extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-21 in the process. They lost 11-3 to the Bell County Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 back in March.
As for Bell County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-8. Considering they have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Bell County's part, Joseph Brigmon made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brigmon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Alex Creech looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Blake Burnett, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Hagan Neal also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Leslie County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 6-4 loss against Perry County Central on the 9th. As for Bell County, they will take on Barbourville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
