Baseball Game Preview: Pleasant Grove Spartans vs. Midfield Patriots

The Pleasant Grove Spartans will head out to challenge the Midfield Patriots at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pleasant Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Pleasant Grove took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Bessemer City as Pleasant Grove made off with a 13-3 victory. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Caleb Rose made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Pleasant Grove got a massive performance out of Amaury Webster, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. Pleasant Grove is undefeated when Webster posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Tre'Mell Washington was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Pleasant Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bessemer City only posted a batting average of .300.

Meanwhile, Midfield was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Parker, falling 13-2.

Midfield's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Pleasant Grove, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Pleasant Grove took their win against Midfield when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pleasant Grove since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
