Basketball Game Preview: Eastern View Cyclones vs. Chancellor Chargers

Eastern View and Chancellor are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Eastern View Cyclones will face off against the Chancellor Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eastern View has five straight wins, Chancellor has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Eastern View will head into Saturday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 24) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Independence 55-53. Given the Cyclones' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Independence are ranked 302nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Chancellor played a tough match last Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Fredericksburg Christian an easy 65-39 win. The game marked the Chargers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Eastern View will have to contain Larell Edwards as he made an impact in Chancellor's last game. He posted 15 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. That's the most steals Edwards has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Cash Dodson, who put up five points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Eastern View pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Chancellor, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Eastern View came up short against Chancellor when the teams last played back in January, falling 67-58. Can Eastern View avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
