Baseball Recap: Oxnard Takes a Loss

Oxnard extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-17 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rio Mesa Spartans. The loss was just more heartbreak for the Yellowjackets, who fell 2-0 when the teams last met back in April of 2024.

Cooper Moreau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

As for Rio Mesa, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-18-1. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 27, 2023, but that streak is no more.

On Rio Mesa's side, not much got past Damien Valdez, who gave up just a hit to keep Oxnard off the board.

On the hitting side, Isaac Pitones was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Oxnard has already played their next contest, a 1-0 win against Fillmore on the 3rd. As for Rio Mesa, they will face off against Grace at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
