Softball Recap: McGavock Raiders vs. Overton Bobcats
McGavock dropped their record down to 9-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Overton Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-4 last Monday.
Bailey Kelley and Jasmine Dahl stepped up to the plate in a big way. Kelley got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, while Dahl went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Riley Phillips, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
As for Overton, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.
On Overton's side, Kaliyha Finley-Gray made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up six earned runs off seven hits. Finley-Gray has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Ella Meacham and Jailyn Norman did most of the damage at the plate: Meacham got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Norman got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Trista Norris was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
