League recap: Northlake Christian tops Mt. Hermon to extend winning streak

2A District 8 recap October 8, 2013

Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A District 8 this week, Northlake Christian beat Mt. Hermon 42-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Pine lost to Aquinas 61-20 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Taylor Mussachia provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Northlake Christian topped the Yellowjackets.

Jason Brooks was the best receiver in the league this week as Archbishop Hannan defeated Pope John Paul II. Brooks racked up 9 receptions for 71 yards. Daniel Hollander helped Archbishop Hannan's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 30 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Hawks' Korey Zeigler and Brooks have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Zeigler has thrown for 531 yards this season, while Brooks has 29 catches for 259 yards. Derrick Dillon from the Raiders leads the league in rushing with 852 yards.

A big matchup in 2A District 8 this week will be when Pine takes on the Jaguars. As it stands, Bradley Seal's team is in fourth, while Pope John Paul II is in third.

Archbishop Hannan and Mark Jeanmard's team played the closest game in the league this week, with Archbishop Hannan eventually emerging with a 22-20 victory. Zeigler threw for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 18 yards during the win.
