The San Ysidro Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Mar Vista Mariners at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. San Ysidro is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 28 points per game this season.

On Friday, San Ysidro came up short against Southwest SD and fell 27-20. The Cougars have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Sean Blazen, who rushed for 92 yards and one TD. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Garcia, who picked up 69 receiving yards and one score.

Meanwhile, Mar Vista never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Castle Park, posting a 41-0 victory. The contest marked the Mariners' most dominant win of the season.

Mar Vista's win came from a few key players San Ysidro will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Holden Bell, who threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. He is becoming a predictor of Mar Vista's success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Jehiel Crawford was in the mix too, providing the Mariners with two TDs.

The victory made it two in a row for Mar Vista and bumps their season record up to 5-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.5 points over those games. As for San Ysidro, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

San Ysidro and Mar Vista were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but San Ysidro came up empty-handed after a 36-35 defeat. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
