Basketball Recap: Scholars Guild Academy Takes a Loss

Scholars Guild Academy played a tough contest on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 82-55 loss at the hands of the Lanier Christian Academy Lightning. The Spartans have struggled against the Lightning recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Scholars Guild Academy still got an impressive performance from Henry Rumble, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 14 points and five boards. Benjamin Brinkmann also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Even though they lost, Scholars Guild Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Lanier Christian Academy was led to victory by Mekhi Barber and Andrew Batusic. Barber went 7 for 13 en route to 19 points and eight rebounds, while Batusic almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Those nine rebounds gave Batusic a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Barber, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Scholars Guild Academy's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-10. As for Lanier Christian Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-4.

Scholars Guild Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-53 victory against Peachtree Academy on the 28th. Lanier Christian Academy has also already played their next contest, a 67-21 win against Killian Hill Christian on the 28th.
