Baseball Recap: Chambers Comes Up Short

Chambers extended their losing streak to eight on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They lost 20-1 to the Mallard Creek Mavericks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 9-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Mallard Creek, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-14. Considering they have won eight matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Mallard Creek's part, Colin McCartney made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McCartney has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JeHue Alston, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maximus Miller, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mallard Creek beat Chambers by a score of 18-0 on Friday.
