Baseball Recap: Owen Takes a Loss

Owen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Mountain Heritage Cougars, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-9 last Tuesday.

Owen saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Puckett, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Puckett's first of the season. Another was Hayden Burpeau, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Owen's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Mountain Heritage, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Owen will be playing in front of their home fans against Erwin at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Owen has given up an average of 12.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Mountain Heritage, they will square off against Madison at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
