Football Game Preview: Poteau Pirates vs. Hilldale Hornets

The Poteau Pirates will head out on the road to challenge the Hilldale Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Poteau is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

On Friday, Poteau didn't have too much trouble with Sallisaw as they won 28-13. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly 15 points.

It was another big night for Spencer Perry, who rushed for 134 yards on only 15 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Poteau was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 230 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 182 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.

Poteau didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ryder Waddell and Jacob Gutierrez.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hilldale). They walked away with a 45-32 victory over Stilwell on Friday.

Hilldale picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-5. As for Poteau, their record now sits at 7-1.

Poteau might still be hurting after the 35-14 loss they got from Hilldale when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
