Volleyball Recap: Emmy Tecu Key Part of Team Effort in Mavericks Win

Mead posted their closest win since November 9, 2024 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Erie Tigers 3-2. This was payback for the Mavericks, who suffered a 3-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mead was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (108-100), but they still managed to win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-23, 15-12.

Mead's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emmy Tecu, who had 24 digs and four assists. Those 24 digs gave Tecu a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamdyn Morris, who had five digs and two aces.

Mead was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in ten consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Erie lost, don't look at Olivia Harris. Despite the final result, she had 29 digs and two aces. Harris has been hot for a while, having posted two or more aces the last ten times she's played. Layla Haggerty also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Mead's record now sits at 8-4. As for Erie, their loss ended a three-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mead will square off against rival Niwot at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Erie is set to challenge their familiar foe Skyline at 6:15 p.m. on Monday.
