Basketball Recap: Bridges Prep Comes Up Short

Bridges Prep played a tough game on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Cross Stingrays and fell 72-43. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Stingrays are ranked 113th).

Despite the loss, Bridges Prep saw an underclassman step up: freshman Addie Taylor dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 boards. Taylor is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sopia Fess, who went 5 of 12 en route to 10 points.

Even though they lost, Bridges Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Ryan Mayers continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cross, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 15 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Mayers a new career-high in points. Chennedy Jones also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Bridges Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Cross, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-8.

Bridges Prep has already played their next contest, a 41-16 victory against Edisto on the 14th. As for Cross, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-41 loss against Liberty County on the 14th.
