Newton had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.7 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Trinity Tigers a 62-0 shutout. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Tigers are ranked 911th).

Newton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Izayah Foster led the charge by throwing for 133 yards and a pair of TDs on only six passes, while also rushing for 41 yards and one touchdown. Those 41 rushing yards gave Foster a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Kendray Porter, who gained 55 total yards and three touchdowns.

Newton's record now sits at 8-1. As for Trinity, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
