Softball Recap: Hughesville Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Hughesville hadn't done well against Warrior Run recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Defenders with a sharp 8-2 victory. Considering the Spartans have won three games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ella Breneisen and Maddie Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Breneisen tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Smith tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Breneisen went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Smith got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases.

In other batting news, McKenna Sones was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Adelyn Knight, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Hughesville's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Warrior Run, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.
