Basketball Recap: Vanessa Mora's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Chapin over Burges

Chapin fought the good fight in their overtime match against Burges on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 56-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Burges Mustangs. The Huskies were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 44-42.

Chapin's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vanessa Mora, who posted 12 points and seven boards. Those seven rebounds gave Mora a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Blake, who had eight points in addition to seven boards and six assists.

Burges' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Danae Gonzalez, who went 6 for 15 en route to 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Gonzalez's evening made it 14 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Emma Ruz was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Chapin's loss dropped their record down to 18-14. As for Burges, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 19 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-10 record this season.

Coming up, Chapin will host El Dorado at 7:00 p.m. on February 11th. Burges does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
