Football Recap: Chaparral Skates Past Apollo with Ease

After only two points in their last game, Chaparral made sure to put some points up on the board against Apollo on Friday. The Firebirds claimed a resounding 46-7 win over the Hawks. With the Firebirds ahead 32-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Leading Chaparral to victory were Jayce Wilson and Ryan Trocki. Wilson gained 275 total yards and four touchdowns, while Trocki threw for 236 yards and five TDs. Wilson really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 82 yards.

Chaparral didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Apollo to a completion percentage of just 30.8%. The team can thank Jett Archuleta for the heroic effort on defense: he. That defensive display was nothing new: Chaparral has limited their opponent to a lower and lower completion percentage in three consecutive contests.

Chaparral didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Luca Ugenti and Anders Norgaard. Norgaard also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 12.

When it comes to explaining why Apollo lost, don't look at Mila Chieg. Despite the final result, he picked up 100 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Chaparral's victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Apollo, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, Chaparral will be playing at home against Deer Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Apollo, they will host Cactus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will give the Hawks their first taste of in-conference action this season.
