Pendleton Heights and Shelbyville are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. Ari Rector made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ally Carlon, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Those hits were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avry Miller, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Pendleton Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Shelbyville didn't have quite enough to beat Eastern Hancock on Saturday and fell 9-8. The Golden Bears have struggled against the Royals recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Addison Stieneker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Anna Shearer, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Shelbyville's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Pendleton Heights, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pendleton Heights hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Shelbyville struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pendleton Heights came out on top in a nail-biter against Shelbyville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Arabians repeat their success, or do the Golden Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
