Preview: Beddingfield Bruins vs. Fike Demons
Beddingfield has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Fike Demons at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Beddingfield is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fike in North Carolina (Beddingfield is ranked 106th, while Fike is ranked 337th).
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact Beddingfield proved on Tuesday. They walked away with a 53-44 win over Hunt.
Beddingfield can attribute much of their success to Kamyla Hill, who scored 17 points, and Natasha Marshall, who scored 14 points along with 9 assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Marshall has scored at least 25% of Beddingfield's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sa'Naiya Coppedge, who scored 9 points along with 10 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Fike's 22-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 47-29 to Beddingfield.
Despite their defeat, Fike saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Emory Skinner, who scored 13 points, was perhaps the best of all. Jewel Brewington was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Beddingfield's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Fike, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Beddingfield have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.8 threes per game. It's a different story for Fike, though, as they've been averaging only 1 per game. Given Beddingfield's sizeable advantage in that area, Fike will need to find a way to close that gap. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Beddingfield strolled past Fike in their previous meeting on Friday by a score of 47-29. Will Beddingfield repeat their success, or does Fike have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
