Softball Recap: George Wythe Takes Down Eastern Montgomery in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only George Wythe walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Maroons considering their one-run performance the game before.

Morgan Layne made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Layne was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, George Wythe got a massive performance out of Avery Cline, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those three hits gave Cline a new career-high. Madalyn Morris was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

George Wythe lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

George Wythe's record is now 8-13. As for Eastern Montgomery, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7.

Coming up, George Wythe will challenge Grayson County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Eastern Montgomery does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
