Basketball Preview: Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles vs. Asheville Christian Academy Lions

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee and the Lions are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles will be playing at home against the Asheville Christian Academy Lions at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Rabun Gap-Nacoochee sitting on four straight wins and the Lions on three.

In what's become a running theme this season, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 66-30 win over Gray Collegiate Academy. Rabun Gap-Nacoochee's victory was all the more impressive since the War Eagles were averaging only 26.48 points allowed on the season.

Meanwhile, Asheville Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid win over the Blue Devils on Friday, taking the game 54-42.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Asheville Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rebekah Bass, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Bass scored 15 or more points. Reece Shuman was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee pushed their record up to 12-9 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee took their win against the Lions in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 55-33. Does Rabun Gap-Nacoochee have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
