Basketball Recap: Pikesville Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Pikesville had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.4 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They claimed a resounding 79-8 victory over the Patapsco Patriots. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Patriots are ranked 267th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pikesville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Makayla Brooks, who went 7 for 11 on her way to 16 points along with seven steals and five assists. Brooks is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Mariah Jones-Bey was another key player, going 7 of 11 en route to 15 points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Pikesville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 13 consecutive matchups.

Pikesville's win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Patapsco, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Pikesville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-33 victory against Carver A&T on the 27th. As for Patapsco, they will welcome Dulaney at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
