Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Hume

Hume entered their tilt with Northeast Vernon County on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They skirted past the Knights 4-2. The Hornets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Knights, too.

Talya McFrederick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.7 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Paris Brooks was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. Those doubles were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Dalley Steuck, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Hume's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Northeast Vernon County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hume will take on Rich Hill at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northeast Vernon County, they will face off against Golden City at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
