Basketball Recap: Commerce Tigers vs. Elbert County Blue Devils
The Commerce Tigers won the last time they faced the Elbert County Blue Devils, and things went their way on Friday too. Commerce came out on top against the Blue Devils by a score of 54-44. Given Commerce's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Commerce's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Raven Parks, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Parks has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Malay L miitchell, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Commerce and bumps their season record up to 14-9. As for Elbert County, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-18.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Commerce will face off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Elbert County, they will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rabun County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully the Blue Devils like a good challenge.
