Softball Game Preview: San Gabriel Matadors vs. Mark Keppel Aztecs

San Gabriel is 1-9 against Mark Keppel since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. San Gabriel will head out on the road to challenge Mark Keppel at 3:30 p.m. San Gabriel has given up an average of 16.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

San Gabriel is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 22 runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Bell Gardens on Thursday. They came up short against the Lancers, falling 21-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Matadors were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Mark Keppel had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They skirted past the Mustangs 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Aztecs have posted since May 2, 2024.

Robyn Guitron spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mark Keppel's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nevaeh Saldivar, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Another was Sarah Lucero, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

San Gabriel's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Mark Keppel, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.

San Gabriel suffered a grim 18-0 defeat to Mark Keppel when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can San Gabriel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
