Baseball Recap: Amundsen Comes Up Short

Amundsen extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-18 in the process. They lost 9-0 to the Von Steuben Panthers. If the Vikings were looking for revenge after losing 6-1 to the Panthers when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Von Steuben, they pushed their record up to 11-10-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

For Von Steuben's part, Axel Rivera was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave Rivera a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Von Steuben is 6-2 when Rivera posts two or more runs, but 5-8-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Matteo Banuelos, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Alex Huber, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

While Amundsen had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
