The Christ Covenant Spartans just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Trinity Christian Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Christ Covenant is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season.
Christ Covenant is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Community Christian on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Christ Covenant took a blow against Community Christian, falling 82-38. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 57-18.
Christ Covenant's loss came about despite a quality game from Noah Stein, who posted 19 points. Another player making a difference was JD Dill, who had seven points in addition to six boards and three steals.
Meanwhile, Trinity Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by New Bern Christian Academy and fell 69-33. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 533rd, while New Bern Christian Academy are ranked 155th).
Christ Covenant will need focus on slowing down Brayden Hopkins, one of several Trinity Christian players who made an impact when they last played. He scored seven points. Drew Williams was another key player, putting up six points.
This is the second loss in a row for Christ Covenant and nudges their season record down to 9-8. As for Trinity Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 10-16.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Christ Covenant has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 27.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Trinity Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Christ Covenant was able to grind out a solid victory over Trinity Christian in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, winning 53-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Christ Covenant since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
