Basketball Recap: Mayer Takes a Loss

Mayer played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Ash Fork Spartans, falling 64-23. The Wildcats just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Taylor McCann was Mayer's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Isabella Morales held things down on the boards with five rebounds.

Isabella Acosta was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 steals for Ash Fork. Acosta is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Crystal Nixon, who went 7 of 10 en route to 14 points.

Mayer's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Ash Fork, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.

Mayer will challenge Grand Canyon at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ash Fork, they will venture away from home to challenge Seligman at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Ash Fork is facing Seligman at the right time seeing as Seligman is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
