Softball Recap: Abington Friends Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

Abington Friends hadn't done well against Academy of the New Church recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Abington Friends was the clear victor by a 16-4 margin over Academy of the New Church. Abington Friends might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

Lorelai Stirling made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Gen Mueller was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Neiko Savior also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Abington Friends kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Abington Friends' win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Academy of the New Church, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Abington Friends will challenge George School at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Academy of the New Church, they will square off against Friends Select at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
