Mansfield had lost five games on the road dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 3-4 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They took down the Crowley Eagles 28-14. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 35-23 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Mansfield didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Collin Caloia and Chime Ojirika. Caloia got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
As for Crowley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5. They gained 196 more yards on the day, but it was Mansfield that made the best use of them.
Crowley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenyen Cotton, who rushed for 153 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Cotton's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 114 rushing yards. Another receiver making a difference was Antayvious Ellis, who picked up 131 receiving yards and one score.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mansfield is set to face off against their familiar foe Mansfield Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. Meanwhile, Crowley will challenge rival Lake Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 893 yards in their previous games.
